Writing Update… Because My Brain Apparently Doesn’t Know How to Chill!

If you’ve been wondering what’s been happening behind the scenes in my little author world, here’s a bit of an update…
First things first — book two in the How The West Was duology (or duet… I still can’t decide what sounds better 🤣) is officially in progress!
Draft one was finished early April (cue me dramatically collapsing into a chair), and I’m now working my way through draft two, which means edits, tweaks, making scenes better, adding bits I forgot, deleting bits that made sense at midnight but absolutely do not in daylight, and generally trying to make Harper and Wyatt’s story the best it can possibly be.
And honestly? I’m so bloody excited about this book.
I’m not revealing the title just yet because while I’m pretty sure I’ve settled on one… I also know what I’m like. There’s every chance I’ll wake up one morning and decide I hate it and change the whole thing 😅 So for now, it shall remain mysterious.
What I can say is that Harper and Wyatt are very much still living rent-free in my brain, and I’ve got some ideas for book two that I’m genuinely really happy with. I can’t wait to eventually share more because there are scenes I’m already desperate for readers to experience.
That said… it hasn’t all been smooth sailing.
In a genuinely annoying turn of events, I’ve somehow lost some of my notes for the book (author nightmare unlocked). Which means a few edits and ideas I’d previously planned are now being rebuilt from memory. Thankfully, I remember the important bits, but there has definitely been some “wait… what the hell was that brilliant idea I had?” energy happening over here.
As if that wasn’t enough for my brain to deal with, I’ve also accidentally done the thing writers always swear they won’t do…
I started brainstorming another book idea.
Except it didn’t stay an idea.
Oh no.
Overnight, it somehow snowballed into what is now looking suspiciously like a three… maybe even four-book series 🤦♀️
I’m still very much in the planning and chaos-notes phase with this one, and I’m mostly working on it in my free time between everything else. Right now, my main focus is absolutely on getting How The West Was book two finished and out into the world first.
Because trust me — Harper and Wyatt deserve their ending.
If everything goes to plan (and my brain cooperates for once), I’m hoping book two will be out within the next few months. No hard promises just yet because editing always takes longer than expected, but that’s the goal!
Thank you, as always, for following along with this slightly chaotic writing journey. Whether you’ve read one of my books already, both of them, or you’re just here for the behind-the-scenes rambling — I appreciate you more than you know 💛
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have edits to tackle… and approximately 47 random story ideas fighting for attention in my notebook.
